Theme

“ Post-pandemic Workspace Furniture ”

Working spaces have been through quite some revolutions throughout the decades. Now, at this post-pandemic phase, the way and the needs of how we work are being rethought in order to support remote working, social distancing, providing cleaner work spaces and many other SOP which try to bring us back to work in a healthier and productive way.

  • Participants are encouraged to design any type of workspace furniture for commercial or home office use such as:
    Multifunctional office furniture, office seating, workstations, partition, storage system, furniture in discussion area, public seating, etc.
  • In order to promote sustainable living for our planet we are encourage the participants to take into consideration of Circular economy trends when designing the Post-Pandemic Workspace Furniture.
  • Furniture is an integral part of life, a way of living, the design should has the global appeal and the marketability of the product is what breathes life into your design.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all the Malaysians, and foreigners residing, working or studying in Malaysia with authorised permits. Participants must be aged 40 or below for the duration of the competition ending 3 March 2023.

Judging Criteria

Creative And Aesthetics (50 marks)

Concept and Creativity (20%)

  • Idea or invention and its implementation
  • Imaginative and original design

Aesthetics (15%)

  • Appearance, composition and aesthetic design

Technology and Material Usage (15%)

  • Integration of technology into design
  • Sustainability and practicality of material application

Functionality (30 marks)

  • Ergonomics (10%) : Consideration of health, comfort and efficiency factors
  • Safety (10%) : Free of dangerous substance and health/ injury risk
  • Sustainability (10%) : Use of sustainable materials and environment-friendly

Marketability (15 marks)

Commercial viability in terms of market acceptance and production conveniency

Presentation (5 marks)

Quality of artwork and ability to present the idea

Finalists Design Showcase Requirement

  • Perspective furniture render (AI, JPEG)
  • Signature (AI)
  • Technical Drawing (CAD)
  • Write up about product (80 words). Highlight main idea for quoting.
  • Interior render (700MM - Width)
  • Sketches/ design development (concept)
  • Mock-up (1:5/ A3)**

Judging Schedule

Preliminary Judging : 9 - 16 Dec 2022

Final Round Judging : 17 Jan 2023

Submission Requirements

Participants are required to submit the following:

  • Presentation slides
    • Max 7 pages
    • In JPEG format
    • 1920 (w) x 1080 (h) size (Landscape Orientation)
    • Each page must include Design Name as footer

    Content includes (SCALE DRAWINGS ARE REQUIRED):
    Page 1 : 3D overall view (taken from the best angle) of the design 
    Page 2 : Design Concept
    • Concept influencing the design
    • Singularity of the furniture piece (Why it is unique and special)
    • Potential use and market appeal
    Page 3 : Top view and elevations from all 4 sides (with exact dimensions)
    Page 4 : Drawing/3D views with texts explaining the functions of furniture parts
    Pages 5 & 6 : Any other 3D views & Technical details (Materials, construction techniques etc)
    Page 7 : Drawing of furniture series/ collection

  • Complete the Registration Form

Rules & Regulations

  • Only newly created and unpublished entries will be accepted.
  • Submission under a group of designers will not be accepted.
  • Entries that contravene intellectual or industrial property rights will be disqualified. Participants will be liable for claims by third parties resulting from the contravention. The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any contravention.
  • All submissions by participants are non-returnable and shall remain the property of the Organiser. Participants shall not use the same entry for other purposes unless with the permission of the Organiser.
  • Shortlisted participants from the Preliminary Judging will be notified on 20 December 2022. They are required to present their design ideas to the panel of judges at the Final Round Judging on 17 January 2023. Absentees will be automatically disqualified.
  • Finalists’ designs will be showcased during the Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2023, 1-4 March.
  • The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entertained.
  • Proof of air-mailing or posting of the entry form is not proof of receipt.
  • The Organiser reserves the right to publicise any submitted entry.
  • The Organiser reserves the right to make any changes to the Award without any prior notice.
  • Any changes pertaining to the competition i.e. venue, date, time, terms and conditions or cancellation will be announce at MIFF FDC official website & MIFF FDC Facebook page
